Negombo, March 19, 2025 – The Ceylon Bible Society (CBS) marked a historic milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new mission expansion in Negombo. This significant initiative is set to be a turning point in the ministry of CBS, furthering its commitment to spreading the Word of God and serving the Christian community in Sri Lanka.

The event took place at 111, Archbishop Nicholas Marcus Mawatha, Negombo, at 10:00 AM and was graced by the presence of distinguished church leaders, representatives from Christian organizations and institutions, and special invitees from Negombo. The ceremony was inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. Maxwell G. Silva, Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo, and Rt. Rev. Dushantha Lakshman Rodrigo, Bishop of Colombo.

The presence of clergy from various Christian denominations highlighted the unity and collaborative spirit that this mission expansion. Leaders and representatives from numerous Christian organizations and institutes, alongside members of the media, gathered to witness this monumental occasion, reflecting the broad support for CBS’s vision.

The new mission expansion in Negombo is expected to serve as a hub for Bible distribution,Bible History Exhibition, Bookshop with Reading Space, Recording Studio, Auditorium, Office Space and many more facilities. This initiative aligns with CBS’s longstanding commitment to making Scripture accessible to all and nurturing a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

As the groundbreaking ceremony concluded, the attendees joined in prayer, invoking God’s blessings upon the project. The verse from Psalm 127:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain,” resonated throughout the gathering, reminding all present of the divine purpose behind this endeavor.
